The 2019 NACHC Community Health Institute (CHI) and EXPO is underway in Chicago, with more than 2,700 health center leaders from around the country gathered under one roof (media advisory). “Leadership, Collaboration, Innovation: Shaping the Future of Health Center Delivery,” is the theme of this year’s conference, which is chock full of education sessions and dynamic speakers on cutting edge topics key to operational excellence – clinical workforce recruitment and retention, accountable care organizations, compliance and performance improvement – and much more! Today the EXPO kicks off at 12 PM, along with a host of Timely Thirty Minute Tips in the Riverside Exhibit hall on diverse topics: core competencies for leadership and professional development, chronic disease management, tackling employee health insurance, and outreach and enrollment. Also, check out the gallery of poster presentations in the Exhibit Hall.
Another focus of discussion at this year’s conference is the need for long-term and stable funding for health centers. Unless Congress acts beforehand, September 30th is the deadline when mandatory funding for the program expires. In the few short weeks left, NACHC strongly encourages health center advocates to tag their Members of Congress on social media about the importance of timely action. It would also be helpful to use the power of earned media through letters to the editor and op-ed placement in local newspapers. You have a unique story to share! Sometimes it is difficult to articulate what this funding means for your health center or your community. If you are having trouble getting started, NACHC has set up a “writing lounge” at the CHI conference site in the Horner Room. We’ll have NACHC staff there to help you write your story in an op-ed or letter to the editor format. For questions, or, to schedule time in the writing lounge, send us an email at email@example.com.
You won’t want to miss featured speaker Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, a nationally recognized health policy expert, address the Opening General Session at 3:00 PM in the Grand Ballroom. Dr. Ross is the first African American woman appointed dean of an American medical school. We hope to see you there!
