Striving for the Gold in Health Care

By Angie Stewart

Peak Vista Community Health Centers in Colorado Springs, CO recently held a Breakfast of Champions for more than 800 attendees. The sixth annual benefit raised money for the health center, which currently serves approximately 60,000 patients from the community.

The keynote speaker at this benefit was five-time gold medal Olympic speed skater Eric Heiden. Now an orthopedic surgeon and resident of Park City, Utah, Dr. Heiden helped raise more than $165,000 for the Peak Vista Foundation so the health center would be able to continue meeting the health needs of the community.

The theme of this year’s event—the Olympics—was experienced everywhere, from the Olympic music playing to the acrylic Wheaties boxes that were presented to the sponsors. During the ceremony, Peak Vista honored the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern Colorado as the 2010 Champion of Community Health because of the great work the charity does ensuring the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile reaches underserved children.

What is your health center doing to celebrate those who have given back to the community? Let us know!
