New England Health Centers Cook Up Healthy Campaigns

By Yvette Crenshaw

New England health centers have been working tirelessly at making their patients and communities healthier. Two health centers in particular are proving that they are willing and prepared to approach many of the challenges that they are faced with on a day-to-day basis by cooking up fun and exciting solutions.

Codman Square Health Center (CSHC) in Dorchester, Mass. is hosting their annual “Men of Boston Cook for Women’s Health” event Thursday, September 23, 2010. The event, which has been hosted by CSHC since 1995, raises funds for women’s disparities such as breast cancer, diabetes, heart disease etc.  This exciting event will include delicious dishes from Boston-area restaurants and the opportunity to mingle with celebrity chefs and others that support the CSHC initiative.

Community Health Center Inc. in Middletown, CT., on the other hand, is cooking up a different campaign against obesity.  The health center, which happily supports a joint effort by Governors Arnold Schwarzenegger (CA) and M. Jodi Rell (CT) to declare September 8, 2010 Recess Rocks Day. The proclamations go hand in hand with Community Health Center Inc.’s (CHC) nationwide childhood obesity prevention campaign. The campaign encourages healthy living by promoting creative movement and a nationwide video contest. Please visit to enter a video contest.  Or you can learn more about bringing the Recess Rocks program to your local school and get details on many programs and interventions to prevent and reverse obesity.
