Medical School Students Team Up with a Local CHC for Learning Opportunities

By Yvette Crenshaw

Greater New Bedford Community Health Center in New Bedford, MA has officially joined forces with the University of Massachusetts’ Medical School (UMass). According to an article in SouthCoast Today, an agreement between UMass and Greater New Bedford Community Health Center will allow students to take advantage of clinical clerkships that will help them as they transition from the classroom into their respective fields.

Peter C. Georgeopoulos, President and CEO of Greater New Bedford Community Health Center said,

This partnership benefits all those involved, especially the health center patients who will receive high-quality care not only from our staff but from the students who will train with us. The students, in turn, will be joining a team whose members are deeply committed to their patients’ well-being. We look forward to welcoming the UMass students and to providing them with an excellent health care experience.

Several students will begin their two-week clerkship this fall and will work closely with both staff and patients at the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center.
