In Honduras There’s a Long Line for Affordable Care

Here’s a recap on our mention last week about a volunteer team of surgeons, nurses, physician assistants, technicians, and speech/language/hearing experts  from Lutheran HealthCare in Brooklyn, NY, who headed to Honduras for a weeklong mission to provide free medical services. Once the team arrived in Tela word spread through town. By the time the team opened the clinic at 6 a.m. there were around 60 people waiting to be seen. By 8:30 a.m. there were hundreds waiting. Among them was a small child, Julian Acosta, age 5. He had a stone lodged in his right ear from playing outside. He was in great pain but, luckily, this was an easy one for the group. After a thorough flushing, the pebble was removed.  Other cases were much more difficult.  Stay tuned for updates on the Lutheran HealthCare mission.
