Representatives Tim Murphy (R-PA) and Gene Green (D-TX) last week re-introduced H.R. 2703, the Family Health Care Accessibility Act of 2013. H.R. 2703 would amend the Public Health Service Act to extend Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) malpractice coverage to all qualified health care professionals who volunteer at health centers.
NACHC commends Reps. Murphy and Green on their continued leadership on this critically important issue for Health Centers. This legislation passed in the House of Representatives by an overwhelmingly bipartisan vote of 417 – 1 in the 111th Congress. NACHC’s statement on H.R. 2703 can be viewed here. The joint release issued by Reps. Murphy and Green can viewed here.
As you will recall, a companion measure, S. 955, was recently introduced in the Senate, led by Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Bob Casey (D-PA). We encourage health center advocates to ask their Representatives and Senators to cosponsor H.R. 2703 and S. 955, respectively.
