It’s almost that time of year again! The National Health Service Corps (NHSC) is gearing up for Corps Community Day (October 11, 2012), and they want to know what your health center is doing to celebrate! There are nearly 10,000 NHSC health care professionals providing care to at least 9.5 million people at more than 14,000 NHSC approved sites in the U.S. and its territories, and Corps Community Day is a chance to celebrate those champions of health care in a big way.
This is the Corps’ second annual national celebration and they are expecting it to be a huge success – with your help of course. Various organizations have already signed up to host events including health screenings, professional networking events, brown bag sessions and much more.
If you are interested in hosting an event or just attending an event, please visit Corps Community Day.
The White House recently hosted a celebration of AmeriCorps Alums honoring 12 of them as “Champions of Change.” Over 100 representatives from several states were given the opportunity to listen to stories from their fellow alumni, speakers such as Jon Carson, Director of the Office of Public Engagement at the White House, Ben Duda, Executive Director of AmeriCorps Alums and many more.
Three NACHC employees who are also AmeriCorps alumni were in attendance and you can check out their experience by checking out the Community HealthCorps blog.
