February is National Children’s Dental Health Month. According to the American Dental Association (ADA), developing good habits at an early age helps children to get a jumpstart on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. Each year in February, thousands of dentists around the country honor the ADA’s program, Give Kids a Smile Day (normally the first Friday of the month) by providing free oral care to children in low-income families.
Health centers have made it a priority to celebrate and educate patients on the importance of dental health by hosting various activities around the country.
The Community Health Center Association of Connecticut (CHCACT) along with several Community HealthCorps (NACHC’s AmeriCorps Program) members helped out with Give Kids a Smile Day at the StayWell Health Center in Waterbury, CT.
Codman Square Health Center in Dorchester, MA offered free dental services to kids in honor of Give Kids a Smile Day.
Community Health Center, Inc. in Middletown, CT also offered dental services on Give Kids a Smile Day to over 150 kids.
Kudos to all of the Community Health Centers that particpated and will be particapting in bringing smiles to kids faces all month long!
