As health reform dominates the news coming out of Washington, just a reminder that the annual appropriations process continues to chug along as well. Last Friday, the full House passed the FY2010 Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies Appropriations bill which, as readers know, contained level funding for the Health Centers program. For what that means for health centers, see my July 13 Appropriations post. Tomorrow, the Senate Labor-HHS Subcommittee on Appropriations will consider its version of the FY2010 Appropriations bill. On Thursday of this week, the full Senate Appropriations Committee will be taking up the bill. This all means that this week will be key to determining if health centers receive an increase in FY2010. Health center advocates in key states continue to engage in targeted grassroots activity to make sure that each and every member of the Senate Appropriations Committee hears from folks at home regarding the impact that level funding would have on their state. Stay tuned for additional info later in the week as it becomes available.
