Every year thousands of Community Health Center leaders attend the P & I and make their way to Capitol Hill to emphasize the continued need for affordable and accessible primary care services. This is set to be a particularly important and informative P & I given the Affordable Care Act, impending effects of the sequester and the outcome of the Continuing Resolution just days away.
Offering care to anyone regardless of ability to pay, Community Health Centers are models of patient-centered care and already serve more than 22 million patients and often offer more than just preventative and primary care—some also provide dental care, nutrition, behavioral health services, pediatrics and much more. But with all the talk of budget cuts the pressure is on because demand already exceeds supply and the need for Community Health Centers is expected to grow to serve the 30 million Americans expected gain insurance under the Affordable Care Act.
At NACHC we know just how important and timely the 2013 P&I is and that is why the theme for this year’s P&I is America’s Health Centers: Setting the Course for a New Era of Leadership in Health Care. The P & I conference will be focus on areas that help Community Health Centers strengthen and grow as a sustainable force in primary care. The forum will offer:
- opportunities to learn about the federal policy landscape,
- information and tools to help build an effective advocacy base,
- information to help position Community Health Centers for a competitive health care market place,
- a focus on the patient-centered medical homes (PCMH) and how to achieve PCMH accreditation and status.
We are excited to see our members from across the country as they descend on our Nation’s Capital next week and look forward sharing more from the P & I next week. We’ll provide you daily updates on this blog about all the P & I events in store. Look for the #NACHCpi hashtag to follow the NACHC P & I Forum on Twitter.
