Sebelius Announces Delay in State Exchange Blueprint Deadline

On November 9, 2012, HHS Secretary Sebelius announced a delay in the deadline for states to submit their Blueprint for Approval of State-based and State Partnership Exchanges.

While the Declaration Letters for a State-Based Exchange are still due this Friday November 16, states now how some additional time to prepare their Blueprint, which will now be due December 14, 2012.   In a letter to Governors announcing this delay, Secretary Sebelius stated that “we have heard from many states that additional time would allow you to submit a more comprehensive, complete Blueprint application for your Exchange.”  The letter also notes that “HHS will approve or conditionally approve the State-based Exchanges for 2014 by the statutory deadline of January 1, 2013.
