Go Green With Jeans

By Yvette Crenshaw

We’ve all heard the song made famous by Nancy Sinatra titled “These Boots Were Made for Walking” but did you know that these jeans were made for insulating? Well that’s exactly what will be insulating the walls of Chiricahua Community Health Centers’ (CCHC) Pediatric Center of Wellness in Douglas, AZ.

CCHC is a part of an internationally recognized green building certification program called LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and a part of the program requires them to use recycled denim for insulation. Who knew that the fabric from those old Levi acid -washed jeans could be used to insulate walls?

Be good to your jeans. You never know when you might need them. Please check out details in the Douglas Dispatch.
