AmeriCorps Grants Announced

By Yvette Crenshaw

The National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC) could not be happier after learning that the National Service Agency will give $234 million in federal AmeriCorps grants to more than 325 deserving organizations across the country.

“In difficult times, working in some of America’s most distressed communities, AmeriCorps members are using service as a solution to our toughest problems,” said Corporation CEO Patrick Corvington.  “With these grants, we are not only expanding AmeriCorps, we are focusing AmeriCorps —  by targeting it on the most critical issues facing our country — from illiteracy and the high school dropout epidemic to hunger and homelessness.”

Community HealthCorps members will receive $6 million and are also elated that the new funding will help them in their efforts to help Community Health Centers  and the vast number of uninsured patients who need care.
