Mark Masselli, the co-founder, president and chief executive officer of the Community Health Center Inc. in Middletown, CT, receives an honorary degree next week from Wesleyan University. His wife, Jennifer Alexander, founder of the nonprofit Kidcity Children’s Museum in Middletown, will be at his side — because she also receiving an honorarydegree from Wesleyan.
“Mark has spent a lifetime working on issues of peace, health and social justice, but the center of his work has been the Community Health Center,” said Mark Bonney, chairman of the health center’s Board of Directors. “Jennifer and Mark have worked together to improve the lives of so many in our community. Congratulations, and we look forward to the ceremony,” Bonney said.
The Community Health Center Inc. is Connecticut’s largest and most comprehensive provider of primary health-care services for uninsured and underinsured people. It provides medical, dental and mental health care services to more than 70,000 people annually in the state, at 12 core sites and at more than 140 schools. Since its founding in 1972, the health center has grown from a fledgling operation into a large network that employs nearly 500 people.
